Hi, my name is / բարեվ իմ անունը

Cam.

I'm an aspiring cyber security professional.

A 3rd year Cyber Security student at the University of Warwick with an (unusual) passion for fintech regulations. After graduation I intend to develop my understanding of FCA, DORA and PCI-DSS to provide regulatory compliance services to firms operating in the finance sector.

A bit about me

In 2022 I developed, ran and eventually sold a successful E-Commerce store that generated over 6-figures in revenue. Stripe was the payment processor I used in order to accept card payments from my customers - and I always wondered how Stripe kept their card details safe.

This is what sparked my (odd) facsination with fintech regulations and it’s where my cyber journey began.

Shortly after that I applied to Cyber Security at the University of Warwick.

Now, alongside my studies I work in a security consultancy that is led by law-enforcement, where I deliver a range of security services to SMEs across the UK. These range from penetration testing and policy reviews to security awareness trainings. I’m so grateful that I had this opportunity as it gave me valuable practical exposure to various aspects of the security industry - beyond the theory in our lectures.

After graduation I intend to develop my understanding of FCA, DORA and PCI-DSS to provide regulatory compliance services to firms operating in the finance sector.

A few things I know that are probably useful:
  • I’m a UI/UX wizard
  • PCI-DSS (basic)
  • ISO 27001
  • FCA (basic)
  • NIST
  • DORA (basic)
  • Python, JS, HTML, CSS
  • Burpsuite and Metasploit
  • Docker
  • GRC Tooling (Eramba)

Security Policy Consultant - Freelancing
Present
Alongside my studies I conduct security policy reviews for SMEs across a variety of industries from manufacturing to E- Commerce.

Currently I am working free of charge in order to gain actual experience within GRC so I can hit the ground running post-graduation.
E-Commerce Developer - Vega Star Trading LLC
March 2021 - August 2023

Developed and ran two online stores that generated $250k revenue in 15 months. Taught myself HTML, CSS, JS and PHP to make it happen.

  • Implemented security controls including input sanitisation and PCI-DSS compliant Stripe payments
  • Negotiated with suppliers in 广东省 (Guangdong, China) to provide branded packaging and logistical solutions to a U.S warehouse.
  • Businesses were sold before starting university for a combined value of $24,000 (verifiable through the button above if you don’t believe me.)

Education

2023 - 2026
University of Warwick
BSc (Hons) Cyber Security
Grade: Predicted 2:1

Currently working on my dissertation on the future use of A.I within phishing communications.

  • Frequently compete in CTFs hosted by the University’s Cyber Security Society.

  • I Provide GRC freelance services for free to develop my experience in the field and help SMEs in bolster their security posture.

Extracurricular Activities

  • Formed a team to compete in the NetCraft DarkNet Competition in which our team had to utilize our PHP and SQL knowledge to take down mock phishing sites. Our team finished within the top ten in the competition, which is open to universities nationwide.

  • Competed in the Cyber Leaders Regional Qualifiers. Our team had to develop a business continuity plan to ensure that a mock port in the UK would be able to withstand a fictional cyber attack. On the day of the competition we presented our proposal to industry leaders from BAE, The FCA and BT. This was an extremely valuable experience as it gave us tangible insight into how GRC work is actually carried out.

Projects

Monero Payment Gateway
Payment Processing Docker
Monero Payment Gateway
I forked the bitcoin payment processor BTCPay and created MoneroPay which accepts monero instead of bitcoin and works in Docker. My live instance operates over i2p - so it cannot be viewed on the clearnet. However linked below is the github repo if you are interested. This gave me some insight into the foundations of payment processors, albeit from a crypto standpoint instead of fiat - but the principals helped me understand the industry better, so that I can provide valuable compliance services in the future.
TheMovieProjectorHut.com
E-Commerce Web-Dev (SOLD)
TheMovieProjectorHut.com
This site sold branded portable movie projectors to customers in the USA. The stock was sourced directly from a factory in China and shipped to a fulfilment centre in Utah. To build this I learnt HTML, JavaScript and PHP. Input sanitisation and server-side filtering were implemented to defened the order database against SQLi attacks. The store generated $150,000 over about a year in a PCI-Compliant manner through Stripe Payment Services.
BuddhaWealthShop.com
E-Commerce Web-Dev (SOLD)
BuddhaWealthShop.com
I worked a lot with Stripe's API to develop a one-click upsell mechanic. This allowed users to enter their payment information once on initial purchase - then when they were shown an upsell product, their payment information was securely stored in the session, allowing them to click "Purchase" and they would be charged without needing to re-enter payment details. More than anything, this venture made me realise the intricacies of dealing with payment information and that financial compliance is the area I love most.
